Writing Exercise: One-Word Response

Another Facebook quiz. Can you summarize your answers in one word that delivers any meaning to the person reading them? It’s actually not just a time-waster—it can get you thinking about more specific, more vivid words to use instead of the string of qualifiers we’d fall back on when we don’t have to take the time to revise. Break yourself out of your vocabulary rut, or rethink descriptions—are you labeling how the object looks or sounds? What it’s used for?

Ann Marie Gamble has been putting pen to paper since her mom made her scrub the crayon off the stairwell walls (one chapter per step). Although there is plenty of inspiration to be had in the carpool lane, she likes writing her way across the galaxy as well as across town, and she especially enjoys research missions (aka family vacations) when she and the boys can get away. Her favorite place to write is a room with a view and a pot of tea.
