A Week of Prompts: Thursday

A book! An honest-to-gosh book!

The Pocket Muse, Monica Wood
Photos, essays about the writing life and getting it done, quotes, random thoughts, and prompts. This kind of thing could be a sappy soup, but I’ve found it to be a great testament to noticing: what you have available to you is enough, so do the work. The prompts and photos and page layouts are great for inspiration now, and a couple of the essays—well, I’ve accosted creative friends to read aloud to them and share the bounteous wisdom.

Here’s a prompt:

Almost any situation includes insiders and outsiders. Most human beings, no matter what their stations, consider themselves outsiders.

Write about being an insider.

You can buy it at Powell’s Books.

Ann Marie Gamble has been putting pen to paper since her mom made her scrub the crayon off the stairwell walls (one chapter per step). Although there is plenty of inspiration to be had in the carpool lane, she likes writing her way across the galaxy as well as across town, and she especially enjoys research missions (aka family vacations) when she and the boys can get away. Her favorite place to write is a room with a view and a pot of tea.
